CHEMICAL ENGINEERING

Chemical Engineering: This unique course is a fun and fascinating look at the world of chemical engineering. Chemical engineering has a wide range of applications outside of conventional petroleum refining. Breakthroughs in pharmaceutical drug delivery, chemical production, water treatment, and air pollution are some of the cutting-edge applications being developed every day. Students will spend the week conducting hands-on experiments and demonstrations highlighting the field's versatility. Students will learn about materials and energy balance fundamentals, chemical reactions, and the numerous areas in which they are used. The course will also examine how these concepts apply to environmental and biochemical engineering.

Students will learn about:

  • Energy dynamics, solar stills
  • Drug Delivery systems, transportation/diffusion
  • Chemical reactions
  • Adsorption and filtration
  • Bacteria cultures and bio-reactions
  • Emissions and more!

As an added bonus students will get to preview some of the research lab facilities. It is recommended that students have fundamentals of algebra and chemistry - if you don't, thats ok... bring your curiosity to learn!

LUNCH: Students staying for full day or for both morning and afternoon sessions can bring or buy their lunch.  All students will eat lunch on campus in The Commons, a small food court.
