PHARMACY, HEALTHCARE, & TECHNOLOGY: IMPROVING PATIENT SAFETY & QUALITY   

Pharmacy, Healthcare, & Technology: Improving Patient Saftey & Quality: introduces students to the intersection of pharmacy, healthcare, and technology in advancing patient safety, healthcare quality, and policy. Students will explore the continuum from drug development and dispensing to the integration of health information systems and quality improvement strategies within healthcare settings. Through discussions, case studies, and a mini project, participants will gain foundational knowledge of how innovation and informatics shape modern healthcare delivery.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the fundamentals of the pharmacy profession and medication safety practices.

  2. Describe how Health Information Technology (HIT) supports and enhances healthcare delivery.

  3. Explain how process and quality improvement principles are applied in healthcare environments.

  4. Identify key healthcare policies and regulations, including HIPAA, and their roles in safeguarding patient data.

  5. Design a mini project demonstrating the connection between pharmacy practice and technological innovation.

LUNCH: Students staying for full day or for both morning and afternoon sessions can bring or buy their lunch.  All students will eat lunch on Campus in The Commons, a small food court.
