FAQs   

Registration:  Registration is on a first come, first served basis. The academies accept 10-25 participants depending on the workshop, course or peogram. A separate registration profile must be completed for each participant from a household. Registration can only be completed online. A participant will be considered enrolled once we have received all the required documents and full payment. Incomplete registrations will forfeit enrollment in an course.

Payment:  Full payment is due at the time of registration. Unfortunately we are unable to offer partial payment plans. All payments can be completed online. Participant’s will not be considered enrolled until full payment and all required forms are received. Enrollment is on a first come, first served basis.

Prices range from $299 to $599 depending on the length and time of the academy.

Discounts:  $50 Early bird discount for signing up before March 31st, 2023. Discounts for UMBC staff, faculty, students, alumni and returning past SEA participants can be applied after the early bird discount expires.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up:  In front of the Performing Arts and Humanities Building across from Parking Lot #8 on Hilltop Road. Parents/Guardians should make every effort to drop off and pick up their child/children on time. The teacher assistant will be at the drop-off location every morning to check in your child and every afternoon to check them out. It will be at the same place every day for all courses. The class will walk together with the assistant to the classroom.

Please note that any students driving themselves or parents that want to park and stay on campus may park in Lot 22 for free.

UMBC Campus or Medical Emergencies:  UMBC Campus Police and Environmental Safety and Health are ready in case of any emergency. Notification to parents and guardians will be swift.

Virtual Class Logistics:  Please review our Virtual Class Logistics  before the first day of classes.

Cancellation Policy (May 10, 2024):  We offer a full refund minus $50 administrative processing fee for any cancellation 14 days prior to a program’s start. Cancellations made 14 days prior to the start date receive a 50% refund. No refund will be offered if cancellation is 7 days prior to a program's start date. All communication about cancellations must be received in writing at extendedlearning@umbc.edu 

  • If payment was made with a credit card, refunds will posted back to your credit card.
  • If payment was made by check, cash or electronic funds, a check refund will be issued. Please note that you will be required to submit required State of Maryland paperwork to be issued the refund check. Please allow six to eight weeks for processing refunds.
  • If cancelling after 6 months of original purchase date: a refund back to your credit card cannot done and will take place though Maryland State refund check process.
  • Fees will not be refunded or prorated for any missed days due to illness, injury, or unforeseen schedule changes.

Absences or Lateness:  If you know in advance that the participant will be absent or will be late, on any of the scheduled days, please inform the instructor or student assistant. Please call the SEA Office at SEA@umbc.edu  if you are running late or have an unplanned absence (e.g. sick).

Registration & Payment:  Registration and payment can be done on-line through the SEA website, or can be done over the phone.

Permission to photograph, take quotes and/or video:  By registering a participant for the Summer Enrichment Academy, UMBC is authorized to take photographs, quotes and videos of participants during activities which may be used to advance the interests of the Summer Enrichment Academy or UMBC, unless the opt-out choice is selected. Each day pictures and videos will be shared on the Summer Enrichment Academy's social media.

Waiver of Liability and Hold Harmless Agreement:  Parents or Guardians will be required to agree to the “Waiver of Liability and Hold Harmless Agreement” for each minor participant’s registration. Participants aged 18 and above will be required to agree to the “Waiver of Liability and Hold Harmless Agreement” for themselves.

Please Note: If any course(s) are cancelled for any reason, the participant will receive a refund for the full amount of that course.
