Critical Care Emergency Medical Transport Program (CCEMTP):
Program Goals: CCEMTP℠ was designed in response to the growing need for qualified specialists in the area of critical care inter-facility transfer. It helps to prepare paramedics and nurses to serve with competence and confidence in meeting the needs of critical care patients undergoing inter-facility transports. While traditional paramedic education programs teach essential skills and provide a knowledge base for the management of patients in the pre-hospital setting, these training programs frequently do not teach the skills and knowledge necessary to manage critical patients between hospitals, specialty referral centers, and extended care facilities. The CCEMTP℠ program will assist the clinician in developing the necessary skills and knowledge to manage critical patients during a high risk transfer. Essentially, CCEMTP℠ is “post graduate education” for the paramedic or nurse that attempts to standardize training and level of care in inter-facility transport.
Curriculum Design: The CCEMTP℠ Program has been completely redesigned to meet the current needs of the critical care transport provider working in ground, air or fixed wing environments. The new curriculum focuses on advanced level knowledge and assumes that participants come in with a working knowledge of Chemistry, Pharmacodynamics, along with Anatomy & Physiology. The curriculum is truly one that creates a Specialty Care Transport Provider and has been not only 100% peer reviewed by leaders in the industry, but also 100% physician reviewed.
Participants: The Critical Care Emergency Medical Transport Programsm brings paramedics and nurses together in an effort to bridge the gap between prehospital and hospital care. The result is a specialized care provider that has an understanding of both aspects of patient care, and uses the understanding to provide the highest level of care to critical patients during transport.
All locations offering the CCEMTP℠ course require that all participants have a current paramedic or nursing license.
CCEMTP℠ Educational Site Licensed locations have the option of requiring or recommending the following prerequisites. Biology, Pharmacology, Chemistry, A&P
Paramedic requirements: Recommended minimum of one (1) year as a paramedic. Additional requirements may be current certifications in CPR, ACLS, ITLS/PHTLS, and PALS/PEPP/PPC. (Please check with your host site)
Nurse requirements: Recommended minimum of one (1) year as a nurse, Additional requirements may be current certifications in CPR, ACLS, PALS/PEPP/ENPC, and ITLS/PHTLS/TNCC/TNATC. (Please check with your host site)
Course Pre-Requisites: The Critical Care Emergency Medical Transport Programsm pre-requisites are:
- Paramedic requirements: A current professional license and a recommended minimum of one year experience in that role.
- Nurse requirements: A current professional license and a recommended minimum of one year experience in that role.
Continuing Education Hours: This continuing education activity is approved by UMBC, an organization accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Prehospital Continuing Education (CAPCE).
UMBC, as a requirement of CAPCE accreditation, will submit a record of course completions to the CAPCE AMS. Course completion records may be accessed by or shared with such regulators as state EMS offices, training officers, and NREMT on a password-protected need-to-know basis. In addition, students may review their record of CAPCE-accredited course completions by contacting CAPCE.
100 CECH hours have been approved by the Air and Surface Transport Nurses Association (ASTNA). You may apply for hours upon completion of the course for an additional fee. You do not need to be a member of ASTNA to claim these credit hours. Please contact ehspace@umbc.edu for more details.

Cancellations/Refunds
*Cancellations/request for refunds must be made in writing six (6) weeks prior to the course start date and is subject to a $45.00 withdrawal fee. Thereafter, all tuition will be forfeited.
*All course materials must be returned PRIOR to the initiation of the refund.
*A $45.00 fee will be charged for any returned check.
*UMBC reserves the right to cancel any course due to insufficient enrollment. In the event of cancellation, tuition will be refunded or transferred to another course date at UMBC's expense.
Disclosure Policy: All persons who develop and/or control educational content in CME/CE activities provided by UMBC will disclose to the audience all financial relationships with any commercial supporters of this activity as well as with other commercial interests whose lines of business are related to the CME/CE-certified content of this activity. In addition, presenters will disclose unlabeled/unapproved uses of drugs or devices discussed in their presentations. Such disclosures will be made in writing in course presentation materials.
