The Power Within: Recharge Your Future with Battery Tech -Have you ever stopped to think about what keeps your phone alive, your wireless headphones playing, or your electric car running? In this one-week STEM adventure, we’ll dive into the fascinating world of rechargeable batteries - the tiny powerhouses that keep our modern lives moving! We’ll start our journey by taking a closer look at the batteries you use every day, the ones that power your TV remote. You’ll learn how these familiar objects store and release energy, and what makes them work. From there, we’ll dive into the fascinating world of electrochemistry through a series of fun, hands-on experiments. You’ll get the chance to create your very own simple batteries using common materials, seeing science in action right before your eyes. But our exploration doesn’t stop there. Beyond understanding how batteries function, we’ll broaden our view to consider renewable energy sources and the future of sustainable power. Together, we’ll discuss different ways of energy generation and usage, and how science and innovation are helping us move toward cleaner, more efficient alternatives.
By the end of the week, you’ll walk away with:
- To understand the functioning of electrochemical cells, identifying the components and the flow of electrons.
- To calculate the potential difference (pd) of a cell
- A clear understanding of how rechargeable batteries actually work.
- Introduction to different sources of energy - Renewable (Solar) cells, fuel cells.
- Real experience building circuits and experimenting with energy storage.
- To solve practical problems that involve the use and construction of electrochemicalcells – Deposition of metals
This isn’t your typical science class. It’s all about curiosity, creativity, and discovery. You’ll see that science isn’t just in textbooks, but it’s in everything you touch. So get ready to explore, experiment, and get charged up about the power within!
LUNCH: Students staying for full day or for both morning and afternoon sessions can bring or buy their lunch. All students will eat lunch on Campus in The Commons, a small food court.
